Our Process

1. Inspection / Surveying

The process begins with a thorough site inspection. Our team will evaluate the existing pavement or land, checking for any issues such as drainage problems, uneven surfaces, or underlying structural concerns. This assessment ensures that we understand the full scope of the project and helps us create a custom plan for your needs. We LOVE to assist with long term evaluation & helping come up with capital budget numbers for your property.  Asphalt Installation is not cheap & understand the importance of potential phasing with each project.  Please talk with your project manager about your long-term goals.

2. Site Preparation and Excavation

Once we establish a proper course of action & discuss financial costs, we can begin preparing the area. This can include clearing debris, milling or removing any existing asphalt concrete or obstacles that may hinder the paving process. Excavation may be necessary to remove the top layer of soil or damaged asphalt to create a proper foundation. All proper permits or utility markings would be done during this phase.

3. Subgrade Preparation and Compaction

The subgrade, or the layer of stone/dirt beneath the asphalt, must be properly prepared to provide a stable base for the pavement. Any tree roots or debris hindering a proper Base will be discussed prior to stone installation. We compact the subgrade to ensure its solid and capable of supporting the weight of the  stone & asphalt. Proper compaction, with the latest equipment, is critical to prevent sinking, shifting, or cracking in the future.

4. Installing the Base Layer (Base Install)

The next step is the installation of the base layer, typically an adequate stone material will be used & discussed before installation. Standard 6” is a preferred method of 2A stone. This layer provides the structural support for the entire asphalt pavement. We spread and compact the base material to ensure uniformity, creating a stable foundation for the final asphalt layer. The base layer is crucial to ensuring the longevity and strength of the pavement.

5. Asphalt Installation

With the base layer complete, we proceed with the asphalt installation. Hot asphalt mix is delivered to the site and applied over the prepared stone base. At ACG, we use state-of-the-art paving equipment and skilled operators to ensure precision and prevent any issues during this critical phase. Our experienced operators apply a Binder Course tailored to your specific needs, whether it’s a commercial lot or a residential driveway. For most projects, a 25MM BCBC (Base Course Binder Course) is used, with the thickness and compaction carefully determined based on-site conditions. We ensure the base reaches 95% compaction for optimal durability. If necessary, a tack coat may be applied between layers to enhance bonding. Once the base is in place, we install the top layer, typically a 9.5MM Wearing Course. Achieving proper grading and compaction is essential at this stage, and ACG’s operator expertise ensures a smooth, durable finish that stands the test of time.

6. Final Quality Check

Once the asphalt has been laid and compacted, our team conducts a thorough quality inspection. This ensures that the surface is smooth, even, and free from defects like cracks or ridges. We also verify that the pavement meets the required specifications and is compacted to 95% completion

7. Curing

After the asphalt has been installed, it needs time to cure and set, typically within 24-48 hours depending on weather conditions. During this time, the asphalt hardens and bonds to the base layer. After curing, we suggest the use of heavy traffic or machinery be to a minimum, watch cutting tires or power steering marks to prevent Wearing Course from tracking or scuffing.

8. Final Walkthrough and Cleanup

Once the project is complete, we conduct a final walkthrough with you to ensure satisfaction with the finished work. We also clean up the site, removing any leftover materials or debris, leaving your property clean and ready for use. Your Project Manager will reach out to assure all work was completed as needed.  All Guarantees & Warranty work will be discussed to assure the highest industry standard.
